You’re In Great Hands
At North River Dental, our TMJ specialist Little Rock AR, understands that TMJ discomfort can be painful and challenging to find what is causing it. The TMJ, or temporomandibular joint, connects your jawbone to your skull like a hinge and is the most used joint in your body. This hinge, located on each side of the jaw, allows you the functions of chewing, talking, and yawning. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, please call our office to schedule an exam.
- Clicking, or popping, sounds while chewing or opening/closing your mouth.
- Constant discomfort and pain affecting one, or both, sides of your face, including your ears
- “Locking” of the jaw making it hard to open or close, and difficult to chew
During your examination at our Arkansas TMJ center, we will spend time observing you repeatedly opening your jaw; this will allow us to listen for any clicking noises, see the range of motion, and feel your jaw for any abnormalities. Once the examination is finished we will then go over different treatment options to help resolve the symptoms.
Most TMJ disorders can be relieved without surgery if taken care of in a timely manner. We can prescribe anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants, and pain relievers for symptoms that are persistent. Physical therapy may also be prescribed allowing you learn about exercises that will help to strengthen and stretch the jaw muscles. If your TMJ issues persist we will then discuss different surgery options.
Please let our office know of any current, or ongoing, health issues so that we can evaluate the potential risks involved with suggested procedures. Contact our office to schedule your consultation today!
